Dhaniakhali Saree, a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Bengal, is named after its place of origin, Dhaniakhali in Hooghly district. About 900 skilled weavers and 1,000 ancillary artisans in Hooghly district produce this traditional handloom saree, a cotton delight to women of all ages. This six-yard with a colourful 1.5-2 ft border with coarser cotton count does not lose its texture and lustre throughout its life. Biswa Bangla has reintroduced the beauty of Dhaniakhali saree with fresh vibrant colours, and combed and mercerised yarns that yield a velvety texture. May have slight irregularity which is characteristic of any hand-woven, hand-embroidered or hand-crafted product. Missing yarn, slobs and uneven yarn contrasts are general phenomena in hand-woven products.
